Houston Freecycle Rules

***************PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION***************** Thank you for your interest in The Freecycle Network(TM). MISSION: Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.

The following are the rules for the Houston Freecycle site: KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL and APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. No alcohol, tobacco, firearms or other weapons, profanity or sexual content or medications (of any kind, including over-the-counter supplements, vitamins, etc.)

WANTED POSTS ARE TO BE USED SPARINGLY. Please do not post several WANTED posts at one time. Posts are limited to no more than THREE at a time.

ASKING FOR “EVERYTHING”. Posts asking for “everything” such as “household furniture” or any other broad request is not allowed. Please list the specific item you are seeking, such as “queen sized bed.”

NO POLITICS, NO SPAM, NO MONEY, NO PERSONAL ATTACKS/RUDENESS OR PREACHING.

NO PERSONAL ADS. Posting oneself or another person from the human species is not allowed. There are many fine Internet dating sites better suited to this purpose.

NO POSTS ABOUT ANIMALS. Posts asking or offering animals are not allowed on the Houston Freecycle site. Please try to find a local animal shelter for your needs.

RESALE POSTS. You must make full disclosure of intent to resell items in your WANTED post.

BE POLITE. Make sure you are being polite and responding with the information that is being requested. If the poster wants your phone number, then give it to them; otherwise, you will probably not be considered.

DON’T BE A NO SHOW. If you say you are going to pick up an item, then either pick it up when you say you are going to or let the poster know you won’t be coming by.

PHONE NUMBERS AND EMAIL ADDRESSES: Please do NOT list your telephone number or email address in your posting. If someone wants to get in touch with you, they can reply through the Freecycle messaging system   If posts have this type of information, it will be edited out. 

ON THE CURB POSTINGS. You are not allowed to list your physical address and then state your item is out for the taking or on the curb. You must make arrangements with individuals who are interested in your item. Posting “come and take it” posts will be rejected.

DISCLAIMER. FREECYCLE(R) NETWORK MEMBERS USE THE LIST AT THEIR OWN RISK. Please take reasonable measures to protect your safety and privacy when posting to the list or participating in an exchange. By joining the list, you agree to hold neither the list owners, moderators nor anyone affiliated with Freecycle.org responsible or liable for any circumstance resulting from a Freecycle-related exchange or communication.

SAFETY. Be aware! It is up to each individual member of Freecycle when arranging for pickup of the item being given away to be appropriately aware of the potential risk of having "a stranger" come to your home to pick something up. Freecycle as an organization assumes no responsibility for this risk. If you, for example, are living alone, you may want to say that you'll leave the item on the front porch while you are not home or arrange for a drop-off at a public place.

DON'T USE FREECYCLE TO ASK FOR PEN PALS, EXERCISE BUDDIES, OR A DATE. Recycling oneself (or one's shy friends) is, we're afraid, not allowed. There are many fine Internet dating sites better suited to this purpose. No offering your spouse or children either.
 

TIPS: If posting an item, please try to include a photo, dimensions, specifics, etc. so that viewers can make a decision without having to bother you again.

CAUTION: Never send money for anything offered on Freecycle (TM). This includes money for shipping/couriers.
