Using the online messaging and managing your posts

Dear members of Paisley freecycle.org!

Thanks to you, the Paisley freecycle.org website is a fantastic resource, helping people to declutter in an environmentally responsible way, saving money and resources by passing on all sorts of wonderful items, and reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill. Since freecycle.org relies on communication between members to keep it running at its absolute best, this is just a wee reminder/explainer about the freecycle.org messaging system, and managing your posts.

Messaging on Freecycle.org happens on the website. Please note that the email notification when you have a new message comes from a 'no-reply' address to protect your privacy. If you want to check for replies or answer a message, log into the freecycle.org website and and click 'My Messages' or the little envelope icon near the top right of the website. If you have new messages, the envelope icon will show a number next to it. Click the envelope and choose 'Replies to others posts' or 'Replies to my posts'. Type your reply in the message window and click Send.

Messages on the website are private between you and the recipient. You cannot delete them but they will automatically expire after 90 days, along with the original post.

To manage your posts:

Click My Posts, then click the orange Manage Post button, and select one of the options (Edit Post, Mark as Taken, Cancel Post).

If your item is due to be collected, it's advisable to choose the Edit Post option and add 'collection agreed' (or similar) to the title. When you mark a post as Taken, it will close the message thread after 24 hours, so you should only mark the post as Taken once the item has been collected.

It's great if you can mark your posts as Taken or Received once they're gone, this keeps the Paisley website up-to-date and saves getting people's hopes up unnecessarily!

If you have questions or concerns, please click the envelope icon, then 'Contact Moderator' to send us a message. Remember to check back online for our reply. You can also find online help if you click the green circle with the question mark and start typing your query in the pop-up help screen.

Thanks for reading and for being a part of Freecycle.org!
