Welcome to Paisley Freecycle.org! Our Guidelines and Disclaimer

Paisley Freecycle.org is one of thousands of freecycle.org groups around the globe, with the sole purpose of matching people who have things they need to get rid of with people who can use them. Our goal is to keep usable items out of landfill and to reduce waste. By using what we already have, we reduce consumerism, manufacture fewer goods, and lessen the impact on the earth. Another benefit is that it encourages us to get rid of clutter that we no longer need, and promotes community involvement in the process.

USING FREECYCLE.ORG

WANTED POSTS

This group limits WANTED posts to a maximum of 2 per 7-day period. No cancelling and reposting of the same request within 30 days, as this is unfair to other members.

It's better to keep it brief when making a Wanted post, and you never need to explain or justify asking for items. For your own privacy and safety, don't give details of your personal circumstances, and don't include your contact info.

Please remember to mark your post as 'RECEIVED' when you have received the item.

OFFER POSTS

Freecycle.org doesn't allow requests for money, part exchange, swapping - just give it away with no strings attached. Please be explicit in your post about the condition of your offering. and make sure that you fully describe any item you offer so that there is no misunderstanding. If it is grubby, stained, in need of a good clean or broken/damaged in some way please state this in your post. If possible, include a photo. Many members are quite happy to clean or repair, or in some cases upcycle an item - as long as they know what they're getting.

Please remember to mark your item as TAKEN when someone has collected it. Note that the message thread will close once the item is marked Taken, so it's best not to do this before the item has been collected. You can edit your post to add 'Collection arranged' to deter others from replying in the meantime.

Email Addresses, Phone Numbers and Home Addresses

For your own safety, please don't include this information in your post. All communication takes place using the online messaging system, which is accessed via the envelope icon. You can give out your contact information to individual members when arranging collection.

Food may be offered but you must state the expiry / best before date. If it is out of date you can still offer it to be used for something other than human consumption.

Charities - Please feel free to ask for unwanted items for a charity. Asking for second-hand or nearly new is fine, but please do not ask for money donations.

RULES FOR POSTING ON THE PAISLEY GROUP:

KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL & APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. This means, for example:
        No alcohol, tobacco, firearms or other weapons, profanity or sexual content, medications (of any kind, including over-the-counter     supplements, vitamins, etc.);
        All copyrighted material must be the original media;
        In local groups that allow resale, full disclosure of intent to resell must be disclosed up front;
        No unregistered waste carriers [UK only].

NEVER send money for anything offered on Freecycle (R), this includes money for delivery/couriers. Report any requests for money to the moderators.

NO POLITICS, NO SPAM, NO MONEY, NO PERSONAL ATTACKS/RUDENESS OR PROSELYTIZING.

NO SWAPS/TRADING PLEASE.

NO PERSONAL ADS. Posting oneself or another member of the human species is not allowed. There are many fine Internet dating sites better suited to this purpose.

NO PET POSTS, or ANIMALS FOR BREEDING OR FOOD PURPOSES.

Posts offering or wanting animals are not allowed. It is not possible to check the welfare of the animal properly and there are plenty of animal welfare charities and organisations available to offer help with rehoming.

No Fireworks, Petrol/Fuel Oil or Gas Cylinders (with the exception of Soda Stream gas canisters)

Weapons & Knives - Minimum age restrictions mean that no weapons or knives can be offered. This includes chef and kitchen knives as well as historical ornamental items e.g. samurai swords or military bayonets or sport items such as Bows and arrows.

BE NICE. A brief note on Freecycle etiquette: we are all volunteers and we've got a great little community here so when you arrange to pick up an item from another Freecycle member, it is basic good manners to accommodate them as much as possible in terms of scheduling, and then be punctual; they are, after all, giving you something you need and asking nothing in return except that you will show up when you say you will. Also, unless the giver tells you otherwise, assume that they would like you to come by as soon as you can to take away the item.

PICK UP. Please arrange pickup with one person only, rather than "It's on the pavement, whoever gets here first gets it." We ask that you treat your fellow members with courtesy and make individual arrangements, setting up a specific time for collection. That approach may seem like more work but if people are making trips for nothing it will sour them towards you and towards Freecycle in general and that's not good for anyone. If you experience a 'no-show', please contact the moderators.

SAFETY. Be aware! It is up to each individual member of Freecycle when arranging for pickup of the item being given away to be appropriately aware of the potential risk of having "a stranger" come to your home to pick something up. Freecycle as an organization assumes no responsibility for this risk. If you, for example, are living alone, you may want to say that you'll leave the item on the front porch while you are not home or arrange for a drop-off at a public place.

DISCLAIMER. FREECYCLE(R) NETWORK MEMBERS USE THE LIST AT THEIR OWN RISK. Please take reasonable measures to protect your safety and privacy when posting to the list or participating in an exchange. By joining the list, you agree to hold neither the list owners, moderators nor anyone affiliated with Freecycle.org responsible or liable for any circumstance resulting from a Freecycle-related exchange or communication.
