Databreach

Good morning,

On August 30, the Freecycle Network was the victim of a data leak on the freecycle.org website. As a moderator of a City group, we have been asked to contact members of our group to ask you to change your password on the site as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

To change your password, after logging in, go to “My Settings”. You will be able to enter your new password there.

More information on the leak here (probably in English for the moment):

https://freecycle.helpscoutdocs.com/article/319-data-breach-august-2023

[there is a ? on the page if you have additional questions]

This leak includes user names, identifiers, email addresses and encrypted passwords. Due to the breach of passwords, even encrypted ones, we take all measures to promptly inform members of the need to change their password. If you have used the same password elsewhere, we advise you to change it there too. No other personal information was compromised, the breach that resulted in the leak was closed and reported to the appropriate authorities.

Even though most email providers do a good job of filtering spam, you may still find that you receive more spam than usual. As always, stay alert for phishing emails, avoid clicking on links in emails, and don't download an attachment unless it's something you expected.

Here are some links to help you stay secure:

Once again, thank you for your generosity in your regular donations and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Your local Freecycle moderators
