San Diego-specific guidelines (in addition to the basic Freecycle guidelines)

Please be mindful that there are 10,145 members (as of September 10, 2024) in this group, and a not insignificant amount of us receive email notifications of new posts - or would like to, ideally.

NO REPOSTING. Never falsely mark your post as taken or received, or cancel your post, post it again, before it would have naturally expired (90 days for OFFER or WANTED). After your offered item is no longer in your possession & you don't expect it will return, you may mark it as taken. After your wanted item is received & you don't expect you will need to replace it due to a defect, you may mark it as received. If you obtain items that multiply those you already have a post for, you may edit your active post instead of deleting and/or creating a duplicate of it.

NO CROSS-STATE/COUNTRY POSTING. If you are in any incorporated city or unincorporated area within San Diego County, CA, you may post here. If you are in another county, please post in that county, not here. If you're a member of any Town outside San Diego County, CA, all your posts will be moderated upon joining here.

NO CURB-ALERT POSTS. Freecycle asks that members not post curb-alert posts (such as "It's on the curb, whoever gets here first can have it.') Posting in that manner encourages many people to head that direction, and 99% of those people will walk away disappointed and empty-handed, after having expended a great deal of time and gasoline for nothing. Please pick out a few items, post them and set up a specific time for folks to pick the items up. That approach may seem like more work but if people are making unneeded trips for nothing it will sour them towards you and towards Freecycle in general and that's not good for anyone.

NO PERSONAL/EMOTIONAL DETAILS. Explanations like these can make members feel guilted into gifting and also give predators a lot of information. With no strings attached, we mean no strings. Feel free to just ask for what you want or need, without personal/emotional details.

NO MORE THAN ONE PUNCTUATION MARK IN THE POST TITLE. Excessive punctuation randomly(?) lands your post in the moderation queue as possible spam & nobody will see it until after manual editing & approval, which is far from immediate.

If you're emailed this notice with the subject line "Your post has not been approved" and you reply indicating you didn't read, nor acknowledge, that you violated at least one of the guidelines above, you risk removal from the group after any future violation.
